Cyprus Life – in pictures

My new life in Cyprus in images and words. I'm a British 50 something female, originally from a small mill town in Heywood, Lancashire (United Kingdom) and came to live in Limassol, Cyprus in March 2004. This is my photo blog about my new life as an expat on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. Plus other things which catch my attention every once in a while…. Enjoy!

Mission Impossible? The “self destructing” memory stick.

Now this is a really cool idea :-)

If you have sensitive information on your flash usb or memory stick maybe this one is for you?

But – you will have to fork out £25 a month for the “self destruct” option.

Satellite TV, Coronation Street – what a dilemma!

Now, I wouldn’t be a true “Northerner” if I didn’t love Coronation Street!

I’m not quite as addicted to this TV Soap as my significant other half though. I only started watching “Corrie” in the 1980′s when Deirdre Barlow was having an affair with Mike Baldwin. My husband has been watching it since he was a small boy. He will be celebrating his 50th birthday in a few weeks time :-)

When we came to live in Cyprus in 2004 we had no access to UK television. We did manage without for a couple of years before we got ourselves a Hotbird satellite system via a 90cm dish. It offered up BBC Prime which gave us a taste for British TV all over again. BBC Prime eventually disappeared off the system which meant by this time we were well and truly hooked and had to look for an alternative.

We now have a Humax set top box and use ART which is an Arab TV satellite package – still on a 90cm dish. We get a number of ITV series including Emmerdale and Coronation Street. Of course, it’s not up to date although there is another alternative called Showtime, which is about 3 – 4 weeks behind the current UK episodes.

However if we went for the Showtime package that would cause another huge problem for us, not to mention the extra cash every 6 months for the newer version!

The episodes we’re currently watching are from 2008. Can you imagine finding and watching them all on YouTube to try and catch up?

Even though we had missed a little over 3 years worth of episodes by the time we got our Arab satellite system installed it actually meant we hadn’t missed any episodes from Coronation Street at all :-D   In fact, we re-watched about 10 or 12 episodes that we had already seen in UK before we departed for sunnier climes.

So, for those of you who are up to date and are avid Corrie fans. Below is an episode we watched last night (9th September 2011) – originally aired on 5th September 2008.

Feel free to comment but – NO SPOILERS, please!

:-)

UPDATE 15th September 2011

GREAT NEWS!

There was a message on our TV last night after Coronation Street to inform us that as of 3rd October, we will get double episodes!

Woo Hoo, that sounds like we may eventually catch up with the UK episodes :-D

Wonder where they will draw the line?

My TV Favourites – Dragons’ Den

We’re currently watching the downloaded episodes from a reality TV show – Series 8 of Dragons’ Den. We’ve also watched Series 6 as well as Series 7 and will catch up on the current Series 9 once it’s finished. I hate having to wait a week between episodes :-(

We enjoyed Episode 2 of Series 8 last night with this lady, she was so in love with her idea – it was totally infectious.

2nd part here….

LayLine Bedsheets – Series 6. It failed miserably but Theo Paphitis and Peter Jones were game for a laugh to try it out!

Huge argument between the Dragons on Series 8
