A really good Chicken Jalfrezi 😦
Since leaving my home town of Heywood in Lancashire, UK over 7 years ago it’s the one thing that is sadly lacking in Cyprus.
There is absolutely nowhere in the main Cyprus districts that can offer a decent Indian jalfrezi meal, whether it be in a restaurant or takeaway.
We did come very close to a tasty Chicken Jalfrezi a couple of years ago when Flavours of India opened in Erimi village. Unfortunately, the main restaurant in the tourist area of Limassol was hindered and harassed by regular visits from the immigration authorities even though the paperwork for the owners’ staff were in order. It meant he often had to send his customers home without them being fed due to having to close as his staff were arrested each time until their documents could be verified.
The restaurant now advertises itself as a gambling place so the cynical side of me thinks something was afoot there…..
Back to Heywood and the reason for this post!
We got to talking about our old Indian takeaway on York Street, Heywood after reading a forum post on Paphos People. What was our favourite takeaway called? Prio Spice – gorgeous!
It seems the only way to get a decent Chicken Jalfrezi in Cyprus is – to make your own 😦
