Cyprus Life – in pictures vs Fylde Coast Musings

Our new life in Cyprus began in early March 2004. Originally from a small mill town in Heywood, Lancashire (United Kingdom) we moved overseas spending a glorious 12 years in Limassol. Feel free to read my posts and view my many #photosofCyprus. However in 2016 we had to return permanently to UK due to family ill health. We're now living on the Fylde coast where the river Wyre meets the Irish sea in the north west of England. More places for us to discover as this part of the UK is not so familiar to us either.

Tomorrow is the 37th Anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

POSTED 19th July – I’ve found a couple of pages on the BBC News website which for those of  you who weren’t around in Cyprus at the time (like me) may find of particular interest.

Tomorrow morning the air raid sirens will most likely sound in remembrance of this auspicious day. Usually we hear them around 06:30hrs in our village on the western outskirts of Limassol.

1974 Cyprus – “a tragedy all round” read personal witness accounts from people who were in Cyprus during the invasion.

20th JULY UPDATE – the sirens went off before 06:00hrs in our village this morning. Before that our cat had been wailing and disturbing us for most of the night so not a good sleep for us. I really did not want to get out of bed today, except that it was too warm to stay in it!

  1. Interesting blog. I am a 50 something Brit living in Paphos since 2005.

I borrowed the picture of the stamp for a post on my blog. I linked back to you here. You might like to read the post, it is a request from a Spanish boy for a letter from Cyprus as he collects stamps.
