Cyprus Life – in pictures vs Fylde Coast Musings

Our new life in Cyprus began in early March 2004. Originally from a small mill town in Heywood, Lancashire (United Kingdom) we moved overseas spending a glorious 12 years in Limassol. Feel free to read my posts and view my many #photosofCyprus. However in 2016 we had to return permanently to UK due to family ill health. We're now living on the Fylde coast where the river Wyre meets the Irish sea in the north west of England. More places for us to discover as this part of the UK is not so familiar to us either.

What started out as a quiet lunch at Curium Beach with friends followed by a dip in the sea turned out to be quite an eventful day.

We went to Kourion Restaurant (the first taverna as you drive down the beach) and met up with 4 of our closest friends. Lunch was ordered and we had a natter while we waited.

Six meals and three large bottles of water later, the bill came to €44. Great stuff!

Four of us decided to stay at the beach for the afternoon so off we went further up the beach to a spot between the end restaurant (Sunshine Tavern) and the far end of the beach by the rocks.

Sunloungers and towels all laid out nicely, off we went into the sea with our boogie boards. The sea was fairly calm and it was also quite warm! There we were, all having  a float around when alongside us appeared a rigid dinghy making it’s way back to the beach.

A few minutes later we suddenly noticed a lot of commotion…. The Land Rover Defender that was waiting to pull the boat and its trailer up the beach was well and truly stuck by the front wheels in the sand and the tide was coming in rapidly!

It was one of those days when you were glad you brought the camera! 🙂

And, I took some video footage – just for posterity 🙂

  1. Land Rover owners fault there – NEVER go into the wet sand with a vehicle because it moves! And you’ll not pull it out with a shogun on a short strop until you let the air out of the tyres of both vehicles. Perhaps he should invest in a winch?

    • They tried to tow it out a number of times with at least 3 double cabs but it just wouldn’t budge.

They ended up jacking up the back end using blocks of wood from my hubby’s double cab and then putting stones from the beach under the back wheels. Then one of the Cypriot guys who had tried to pull them out earlier came back with his double cab with an electric winch fixed to the front. They attached that to the Land Rover and fixed the double cab to another double cab from behind.

Bob’s your uncle – out it came! 🙂
