Cyprus Life – in pictures vs Fylde Coast Musings

Our new life in Cyprus began in early March 2004. Originally from a small mill town in Heywood, Lancashire (United Kingdom) we moved overseas spending a glorious 12 years in Limassol. Feel free to read my posts and view my many #photosofCyprus. However in 2016 we had to return permanently to UK due to family ill health. We're now living on the Fylde coast where the river Wyre meets the Irish sea in the north west of England. More places for us to discover as this part of the UK is not so familiar to us either.

Which do you prefer – Real books, or Kindle?

Well, for travelling, by the pool or on the beach – I prefer to take my Kindle with me as it’s soooo much easier and I don’t have to worry about the bindings coming unglued in the Cyprus heat.

If reading indoors in the comfort of my own home, I’m perfectly happy to read a hard copy book.

I’m a great fan of Amelia Peabody books written by Elizabeth Peters and so is my husband. We’re building our collection of these and so I will continue to buy them in paperback version for posterity.

Amelia Peabody on the subject of Men: "Men always have some high-sounding excuse for indulging themselves."

I’ve just about finished reading my first Kindle book and really love it so I can see an advantage for both options. Certainly for ease of carrying lots of books about when going on holiday, the Kindle is the best solution.

The screen is fantastic – no glare, which is where the iPad has an extreme disadvantage.

  1. I love reading my kindle poolside and on the beach! I never get any glare, and I can still see the screen even when I read with bifocal sunglasses. I thought the polarization might affect the screen but it doesn’t! I can read all day.
